It was nice to see so many of you at the Halloween Parade today. I appreciate all the delicious treats you brought for the class! Please see below for an update on what is going on in the classroom and reminders of upcoming dates to remember. As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
The third graders are very enthusiastic about learning multiplication. They have discovered that multiplication is really repeated addition (4x2 = 2+2+2+2). The first multiplication facts they will be practicing in class are the 2, 5 and 10 facts. If your child is fluent in addition and subtraction, they may want to start learning their multiplication facts.
Students are working hard to compare all of the mysteries they have read to figure out how mysteries “tend to go.” We’re also working on specific fluency (rate, expression, accuracy, phrasing) and comprehension (retell, inferring) skills in small groups.
This week in writing, third grade students will finish publishing ‘small moment’ stories. In doing so, they will continue their practice typing on the keyboard. This is an important skill for them to develop as they begin to publish more of their written work. The grammar lesson will be on sentence parts: subject and verb. (The cat ran away. subject: cat verb: ran)
