Please remind your children to fill out and total their reading logs and hand them in on Monday mornings. I have noticed that the number of minutes read at home has been decreasing for many students. Your child should be reading for a minimum of 80 minutes per week and hopefully more!
Thank you for being a partner in your child’s learning!
Below is a brief summary of what your child is doing in the classroom.
Have a great week.
Reading: Students are now working in book clubs to dive deeper into character study. We are almost finished reading our mentor text, Because of Winn Dixie. You may want to ask your child how about the secondary characters in the book.
Writing: Third graders are continuing to write “baby literary essays.” They are learning to make a strong claim and back it up with evidence from the text.
Math: Third graders are studying more advanced concepts in multiplication and division. (For example 5x30, or 4x2x5=8x5) Keep studying those basic facts! (2, 4, 5, 8 and 10 multiplication and division facts)
Science: Third graders will continue to study changes in matter, and this week will be focusing on chemical changes.
Music: Please practice your recorder for 5-10+ minutes each day.
Be sure to keep your recorder & sheet music in your backpack.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraiser for The Haddam Fuel Bank. B.E.S. raised $1,000!
