SOCIAL STUDIES: Tomorrow is the big Election Day for the country, but today was Election Day at Burr Elementary. Approximately 6 students from each 3rd grade classroom ran for student council. They all did a great job making campaign posters, and writing and presenting their speeches. Today was the day that all the 3rd graders registered to vote and cast their ballot. We will find out on Wednesday which 2 students from each class will be the student council representatives! Through this process the students have learned a great deal about voting and the democratic process.
WRITING: We just finished our narrative writing unit and today we began our next unit on information writing. Your children will be writing pieces to teach others about areas in which they are an “expert”.
READING: The third graders are enjoying their current mystery reading unit and will soon be starting a new nonfiction unit.
MATH: In math your children are gaining a conceptual understand of multiplication and division. They now have a basic understanding of all 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We have started to practice the 2’s, 5’s and 10’s multiplication facts in class.
