We will begin assigning homework to third graders gradually over the next several weeks. They will be responsible for reading about 20 minutes per night, working on math facts (5 minutes each night), practicing their recorder (about 5 to 10 minutes each night as needed) and completing a Fundations spelling/cursive packet (5 minutes a night over the week). The two of us can answer specific questions about this tomorrow evening at Curriculum Night. We will meet our class parents in our homerooms, but we will also congregate as a team at the end of each session so you can meet the other teacher.
Today we started adding our at-school reading on our reading logs. They will be due next Monday, September 17th and every Monday after that. We are asking third graders to read about 20 minutes per night for 5 nights (spread out over the week.) If a child has an activity on a particular evening, they could read the next morning, or double on another night, or read over the weekend. The at-home reading goal of 100 minutes will be added to in-school reading minutes for about a total of 200 minutes of reading for the week.
Parent-teacher conference signups for October 24th and 25th will be available in our classrooms during Curriculum Night.
We are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at 6:30 pm!
