Hello Room 5 families,
Have you had a chance to check out the “All About Me Chatter Pix” that students created in art class with Mr. Granucci? They are posted on his web page.
Reports cards went home on Friday. If you have any question, please feel free to contact me.
Our next reading unit focuses on studying characters in fiction, so it’s very important that kids are reading “just right” books each night rather than picture books, non-fiction or graphic (comic book) novels. Also, FLAGS and POST-IT NOTES are back! Students MUST stop to “flag” (place small strips on pages) and write post-it notes about character traits, feelings, relationships, ask questions, etc. as they read!
In math, students must practice 10s, 2s, and 5s multiplication and division facts. Xtramath is one sure way to build speed and automatic recall of facts! Soon, we’ll introduce and teach strategies for x ÷ 4s and 8s (which build upon a solid understanding of the 2s.)
We have started a fun writing unit learning to write persuasively in opinion writing, where third grade authors hone their argument skills to persuade readers. (You may receive a well-crafted plea for a new pet or new sibling!)
It’s “week #1” for the arts block rotation, so our special is PE. Please remind your student to wear (or bring) sneakers on Wednesday as well as Thursday.
The new lifetime spelling words to study and practice for this week are goes, does and was.
Warm Regards,
Kathleen Egan
