It has been terrific getting to know each of your wonderful third graders and see how they are already making new friends and forming a community within our classroom! I am enjoying seeing their individual personalities emerge.
This was a very busy week! The students are learning about each other, their new teachers, and the rules and procedures of the “big kid” third and fourth grade hallway! We like to take the first weeks of school to really establish classroom routines so kids are comfortable knowing the expectations and beginning to establish more independence. Although it’s tempting to dive right in to academics, the first step to kids’ success as learners is getting to know them as people and laying the groundwork for their social-emotional development this year.
We have held several class and grade 3 team meetings this week. The kids have shared about themselves and had fun playing lots of “getting to know you” games. We worked as a class to establish classroom rules that we signed and promised to follow to ensure that we all feel comfortable and ready to learn.
Thank you all for so quickly sending back the paperwork packet that was sent home on the first day. If you still have a parent survey that you’d like to share with me, please send it in next week. It’s really valuable having your input about your student!
You will hear more about homework expectations in the coming weeks, particularly at Curriculum Night at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. This is a great time to visit your child’s teachers, hear about the grade-level curriculum and activities, and ask any questions you may have.
Please feel free to email me with any comments or questions. I love hearing from you and working to ensure that your third grader has a happy, successful year of learning!
Warm Regards,
