The students have been really enjoying our unit on rocks and minerals. They have been learning all about Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks. We have used our time in class to share, identify, examine, compare and test many of the rocks in the classroom as well as the rocks that have come in from home.
(At this point, I'm pretty sure many of your gardens at home are rock free for next year's gardening. So you're all set. You're welcome!) When students bring in rocks from home we have been setting aside a special time for rock shares. It is great practice for even the shyest of children to get to talk about something that really interests them. Some of the rocks that have been coming in are VERY cool. Thanks for allowing your child to share and engage with their peers in this way.
We have also been playing a mock game show- "Let's get Rockin'." It's a game I designed to help the students learn to use the resources around the room and their teammates to answer questions about the science topics that we've learned about. It's be great to see how committed and engaged the students are with their learning. I'm pretty sure they're having fun too.
I know I am!
