This week we started our Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions PLTW science unit. The students are working collaboratively and beginning to learn about force (effort force and resistant force). This inquiry based unit presents real life situations/problems and the students work together to find solutions with their new learning.
I hope that you all fared well with the heavy rains this week. The rainfall amounts are quite impressive!

Third Grade Families:
I will be using this blog to update you all on what is going on in third grade writing class, as well as any other big events or news this year.
My main line of communication to our class will be through email. However, if there is ever a need to reach out to you directly, I will call or make an appointment to have a more in depth conversation.
If you ever have any questions or need to reach me, the quickest and best way is through email. I check my email often throughout the day. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or you may call the school directly 860-345-4584.
I arrive to school early on most days and I can often meet or talk on the phone then, to discuss any concerns that may develop.
I look forward to a GREAT year!
Wed 9/19- Yom Kippur Holiday- no school
Fri 9/28- Early Dismissal for students
Thank you to all who volunteered to chaperone our upcoming field trips. It is nice to have so many parents willing to join us on these new learning experiences.
There will be no new lifetime words added for the remainder of the school year. Please review the complete list of words on the homework sheet with your child.
Haddam History Reports:
We finished presenting the Haddam History Reports today. They were absolutely wonderful! It is clear from the way the students’ faces lit up as they presented their projects to the class that this was a fun and exciting learning experience for them. I hope it was for all of you as well. I appreciate the support and guidance that you gave to them to help them learn more about their town.
End-of-the-Year Class Gathering:
Please let me know if you are interested in planning the end-of-the-year class gathering. We will be planning it for the second to last day of school - Thursday, June 21st.
Upcoming Important Dates:
BES third grade students were thrilled to talk to Haddam's First Selectwoman Lizz Milardo today! She came for a visit to speak with the students about the persuasive letters that were sent to her office earlier this year. Our BES students spoke about their wonderful ideas and suggestions to help improve our community. Mrs. Milardo had clearly read each and every letter, as she addressed each student with thoughtful responses and heartfelt explanations. Discussions about animal shelters, skate parks, street lights, sidewalks and restaurants were accompanied with huge smiles!
As a result of today's visit, the students feel incredibly empowered and have seen first hand that their voices can make a difference. I am very proud of our students and very grateful that we live in a community that listens to even the youngest of our citizens. I'm sure that the visit today is something that these students will not soon forget.
Thank you Mrs. Milardo!
