Hi Families!
As we all prepare to spend a thankful weekend feasting with friends and family, here are a few things that have been happening in third grade.
Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
As we all prepare to spend a thankful weekend feasting with friends and family, here are a few things that have been happening in third grade.
- In our PLTW science unit, the students collaboratively worked through the design process for their final project and created a compound machine to save a tiger from a moat. Conversation starter: Ask your child about the criteria involved (time constraints, materials, must lift tiger off the ground at least 4 in, must include a magnet, harness must not pull or lift tiger by the tail, limbs or neck), what simple machines were in their compound machine, and if it succeeded or not.
- In social studies, students are excited to be ‘traveling’ back to their colonial settlements. Students are taking on the roles of early European settlers in Connecticut and establishing rules, jobs and governments in their own small colonies. We are also learning about the culture and language(s) of the early indigenous people of this region so that our colonies can trade and break bread with our Native American friends.
- We visited our buddies today. The ‘older buddies’ in our class helped the ‘younger buddies’ decorate vests to wear to their Kindergarten Thanksgiving feast. So much fun!!
- The Kindness Movement- We have been talking A LOT about how we talk to one another in our classroom. The words that we choose to say and the tone in which we say them have a big impact on others. Conversation starter: Ask your child what they have done or said today to make someone else’s day better?
- SAVE THE DATE- Thurs, Dec 20th (2:00- 3:00) 3rd grade Holiday Centerpiece activity. We will be looking for volunteers to help run this festive and fun event. Let me know if you would be interested and able to help out with this event.

- Thurs, 11/22 & Fri,11/23- No school- Thanksgiving recess
Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
