Hi Families!
There has been quite a bit of excitement in class over the last couple of weeks and it has been growing day by day! The students are doing a very nice job staying focused when needed and they have been actively engaged in the lessons and classroom activities. They are all working really hard. (We tried a fun mannequin challenge today as a quick break…. but I had a few technical difficulties filming with my phone. Maybe we’ll try again tomorrow.)
In Science class, we are studying changing matter. The students have been learning all about matter, the states of matter- solids, liquids and gases (and plasma) and how the properties of matter change when conditions change. Our lessons and classroom discussions have been giving us some great ideas for some fun classroom experiments!
In Social Studies class we have been talking a lot about the different types of families, as well as their special traditions. The students have recently finished writing ‘My Favorite Family Tradition’ pieces. Their informational writing skills are really improving as they share all of the special details that they love about their chosen tradition.
On a related note, you should all be so PROUD of your kiddos. (I know I am.) You have instilled such respect and appreciation for family and tradition in your children. It is evident as they write about the truly important things to them…..like spending a holiday at Grandma’s, watching the Super bowl with my dad, baking cookies with my family and going around the Thanksgiving table to share what we are all thankful for. These wonderful children of yours have learned such valuable lessons before they have even turned double digits. Good work! It will serve them well when they become adults.
Our discussions about different traditions have sparked new interests for many students on the team. There are quite a few students who have volunteered to do extra research about a new or special tradition and then share with the class. These students will be presenting what they learned next week. (I will let them know what day they are scheduled for so they can be prepared.) It is so exciting!
Important Reminders:
**Please send in your container**
If you have not already sent in a container (with your child’s name on it) for your child’s centerpiece, please do so this week. (A cool whip container or a container that is similarly sized works best) If you have an extra container that you are willing to send in as well, we would really appreciate it!) We want to make sure every child will be able to make a centerpiece. Thank you!!
Important December dates:
12/16- Report cards go home
12/21- Field trip to HKHS for holiday concert 9:30- 11:15
12/22- Centerpiece Craft @ 2:00 in the cafeteria (refreshments immediately follow in the classrooms) 12/23- -Early Dismissal
